Retro Classics... Part II

So here I am back with the second installment of Retro Classics...

Baar Baar Dekho from China Town (1962)
Shammi Kapoor (need I say more?!) This song actually reminds me of Teesri Manzil where he plays the role of Rocky, the drummer. Maybe I'll have a separate post dedicated to Teesri Manzil, the first murder mystery I watched starring none other than Shammi Kapoor.

Ek Pardesi from Faagun
I am having no luck finding the year this movie was made. This song is such a classic. I confess I had no clue who was in this movie but just listening to this song brings back so many memories.

Chad Gayo Papi Bhichua from Madhumati (1958)
Madhumati, another movie which was a murder mystery with elements of the supernatural. I loved the movie when I watched it. I was also astounded by the story and the depth that this movie had. I'll be repeating myself when I say I loved this movie and became a fan of Vaijanti Mala and Dilip Kumar after I watched this movie.

Madhuban Mein Radhika from Kohinoor (1960)
Again this is a song that I had heard countless singers sing for singing competitions. This is classical and timeless. Only after watching the video did I realize that Dilip Kumar was in it.

Dil Ka Bhawar Kare Pukar from Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963)
I grew up watching Retro Classics. This was one of the songs that was a staple in the playlists!

Na Shikwa Hai from Amar (1954)
This is a new classic that I discovered while making my list. I have been finding a whole bunch of such classics while I was making a list of the songs I personally enjoyed.

Na Jao Sayyan from Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962)
This song has so many emotions in it. The lyrics are filled with longing a wife feels when her husband is leaving. Meena Kumari, aptly titled as the Tragedy Queen, is just gorgeous in this song. She is graceful as she portrays a woman who is begging her husband to stay with her.

Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua from Shree 420 (1955)
Raj Kapoor. Will there ever be such a Showman? Shree 420 is such a classic film. This song clearly shows the love that Raj Kapoor and Nargis shared.

Uday Jab Jab Zulphen Teri from (1957)
This song makes me smile every time I listen to it! It's just so cute!

Dil Mein Pyar Ka Toofan from Yahudi (1958)
A new discovery.

Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh from Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai (1960)
Meena Kumari at her tragic best. Here a woman talks about the ironic story of her life and her love - happy at the surface but hiding pain and angst she feels deep inside.

  1. It's amazing how many of these songs I know of and can sing along to yet have no clue what movie they were from or what actors it has only to one day come across them on youtube.

I haven't seen China Town but I love that Baar Baar Dekho song and ofcourse anything from TGKS is a CLASSIC fav. Will slowly work my way through the ones here I haven't heard like Dil mein pyaar ka toofan, uday jab jab zulf teri etc.

  2. That's so true! The only reason I've seen some of these songs is because my dad is a huge Rafi saab and Kishore da fan and he has a whole bunch of dvds.
